How to get started with LiteracyLink's Online Lessons
To use both Workplace Essential Skills and GED Connection online learning activities, you must register to have a Home Space at the LiteracyLink website. This personalized Home Space is where all the lessons and Practice Tests are stored.
At your Home Space you will find a feature called My Portfolio. All of the work you do on the Workplace Essential Skills and GED Connection activities will be stored in your portfolio.
Also at your Home Space, you can write in a private journal and use a dictionary and a thesaurus. If your local adult education program has purchased an Online Management System license from KET, you may be able to select a teacher who will respond to your online work.
Students: How to register for a Home Space
Click on the Begin button.
Read under all the links on How to Use this Site and How to Use the Workplace Essential Skills and GED Connection Online activities. Go to the Registration and Log In button. Click on the Register Page link. Click on Begin Follow the prompts to fill in the Registration Form. Please be sure to indicate that you are NOT a teacher.
You will be asked to choose a password. You will need to use this password to return to your Home Space to work more on Workplace Essential Skills and GED Connections. Be sure to write down your username and password exactly the way you typed them (this includes capital letters and dashes) since they must be typed exactly the same way each time you log in. Click on the Submit button when you are done.
Teachers: How to create your Home Space
To create a Home Space do this (only once):
From the LiteracyLink Home Page. go to Begin, click on the Registration and Login button. Fill in the registration form. All items marked with a red star must be filled in. Choose a password that you will easily remember. Be sure to write down your username and password exactly the way you typed them (this includes capital letters and dashes). Your user name and password must be typed exactly the same way each time you use them.
Be sure to indicate "I am a teacher"; otherwise you will be registered as a student. Click on the Submit button when you are done.
How to access your Home Space after registering
Once you have created your Home Space, you never have to use the Register button again. Any time you wish to go to your Home Space, use your username and password to Log In from the LiteracyLink Home page.
Create a virtual classroom
To create a Virtual Classroom, your agency must first have purchased an Online Management System license from KET and submitted the program names to appear at the website. Call KET at 1-800-354-9067 to find out if your agency has purchased a license and who the contact person is for the license.
To allow your learners to choose you as a virtual teacher, your name needs to be listed at the website under your agency or program name. You will get the code you need to create your online virtual classroom from your program administrator. To have your name appear under your agency's name follow these directions:
How to open and close your classroom to learners
The Activate button in your Home Space enables you to open and close your classroom to a new learner's view at will. At this point, you will be asked to choose whether to immediately open your classroom or to keep it closed to enrollment until a later date. In order for your learners to be able to choose you as their teacher, you must have your classroom open for enrollment. Click Activate to open. Click on the Update button.
If you wish to keep your classroom closed to enrollment, you can open it later, using the Activate My Virtual Classroom icon at your Home Space. You can close the classroom at any time and still serve the learners you have already accepted. Click on the little house graphic again to be returned to your Home Space.
How to Accept and Reject Learners
When a learner has asked to join your virtual classroom, you will receive notification of that request in your LiteracyLink mail box. Click on the mail box to find the mail. You can accept the learner while reading the notification message. A learner will not appear on your virtual class roster unless you accept them. If you do not want for a learner on your class roster, do not accept them. Instruct them to choose another teacher.
